SCV Participates in “Forum on Modern Slavery ‘Sin before our Eyes’”
February 9, 2017
SCV participated in the recent “Forum on Modern Slavery ‘Sin before our Eyes’” cosponsored by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Church of England. Advisory Board Member, Presbytera Maria Drossos, pictured below with His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew I, represented SCV for this historic event. Participants were inspired by the addresses and call to action offered by both the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The conference gathered clergy and laity, academics and practitioners who presented and shared great insight on efforts addressing the various aspects of human trafficking. A Joint Declaration was signed at the conclusion of the Forum. For the full text, please click HERE.
Early in 2015, SCV launched our Diakonima or “Public Service Ministry” engaging “Divine Compassion and Human Trafficking”. Our goal in this initiative is to help promote awareness, collaboration, advocacy and action helping to equip the Orthodox Church in addressing the multifaceted aspect of this humantragedy.
